The pre departure class this
semester has been infinitely more valuable than I ever could have imagined. I
think with this being my first long term stay somewhere abroad, everything we
have gone over in class has made me feel a lot more confident about what to
expect and less timid about the whole experience in general.
Personally, the
best part of the class for me was getting to know the other students that will
be going on the trip as well. I know a lot of people going abroad to other
places and they have no idea who is going with them, which makes it way more
intimidating in my opinion. I think one thing the class really opened my eyes
to which will be very useful abroad is the fact that I needed to do a little
more background research on my own country before going somewhere as a
representative for it. Also, although the units were time consuming, I am
really glad we had to do them because some of the things I found most valuable
were things I never would have even thought to ask about! All in all I think
all the discussions, videos, questions, etc. were all very beneficial and have
put my family and myself a little more at ease. Now I am even more excited to
live out all the adventures Cape Town has to offer!"
