Welcome to Our Blog

WELCOME TO OUR BLOG

As anyone who has participated in UConn's Education Abroad in Cape Town will tell you, there are no words to adequately explain the depth of the experiences, no narratives to sufficiently describe the hospitality of the people, and no pictures to begin to capture the exquisite scenery. Therefore this blog is only intended to provide an unfolding story of the those co-educators who are traveling together as companions on this amazing journey.

As Resident Director of this program since 2008 it is once again my privilege and honor to accompany another group of remarkable students to this place I have come to know and love.

In peace, with hope,

Maria comforted by the fact that she will return to Cape Town!

Maria with graduating friends.
As sad I was to leave Cape Town, I'm beyond happy I watched my best friends graduate college. However, now I'm coping with both my return to the states and realizing my best friends will be in the real world when I'm back in a Storrs for the fall. After one day of being home, I was struggling with only watching Netflix. In effort to be productive, I've officially begun my career as an EMT. However almost every part of every day reminds me of Cape Town right down to the phenatol the medics use. I cannot even count how many times I've been asked "how was Africa?!". I can never do it justice so I end up saying "I cannot believe I'm back in the states". I'm struggling to readjust. The hardest part is all my babies I've left behind. I think about them everyday because nothing would make me happier than entertaining my tiny humans. However, I'm glad I watched them grow and heal. I'm happy to know that many of them will be returning home soon to a life outside of the hospital. I'm comforted by the fact that I will return to Cape Town. It's crazy how I've been around the world but I'm back again.
