Welcome to Our Blog

WELCOME TO OUR BLOG

As anyone who has participated in UConn's Education Abroad in Cape Town will tell you, there are no words to adequately explain the depth of the experiences, no narratives to sufficiently describe the hospitality of the people, and no pictures to begin to capture the exquisite scenery. Therefore this blog is only intended to provide an unfolding story of the those co-educators who are traveling together as companions on this amazing journey.

As Resident Director of this program since 2008 it is once again my privilege and honor to accompany another group of remarkable students to this place I have come to know and love.

In peace, with hope,
Marita McComiskey, PhD

Alex Z reasons to be excited

This week is starting off incredibly. Monday was supposed to be a holiday, but I ended up going to work anyway, just because I love it so much. I brought Abby and gave her a tour of the aquarium, though there wasn’t too much to do on the particular morning. Tuesday, I finally was able to see all my coworkers in one place after the holiday in Johannesburg, and it was awesome. We made plans for dinner and went to Chalk and Cork in Tamboerskloof, where they serve tapas and delicious house made cocktails. I have plans with them again on Friday night to go out, which I can’t wait for. But for the most important thing this week…MY MOM IS COMING. Despite the mixup of her supposed to be arriving Wednesday night, she’s arriving Thursday night and I’m deliriously excited. My favorite person is going to be in my favorite place. It doesn’t get any better than that. I have an itinerary for her 12 day stay, but this is Cape Town, after all. We’ll just end up riding that wave.
