Welcome to Our Blog

WELCOME TO OUR BLOG

As anyone who has participated in UConn's Education Abroad in Cape Town will tell you, there are no words to adequately explain the depth of the experiences, no narratives to sufficiently describe the hospitality of the people, and no pictures to begin to capture the exquisite scenery. Therefore this blog is only intended to provide an unfolding story of the those co-educators who are traveling together as companions on this amazing journey.

As Resident Director of this program since 2008 it is once again my privilege and honor to accompany another group of remarkable students to this place I have come to know and love.

In peace, with hope,

Sydney making friends with whom to enjoy her adventures

This weekend I got experience the Old Biscuit Mill for the first time. If you are headed to Cape Town it should be on the top of your lists for things to do on a Saturday morning. There are lots of food vendors, places to shop for gifts and souvenirs, and to even get some fresh veggies. Beginning able to explore with my friends was a great time and the food was amazing. Later this Saturday we were able to experience Carnival! Watching the different dances and performances was awesome, and I’m glad I decided to go. Seeing the different representations of street life, from fire fighters and police to people skating and riding motorcycles. That following Sunday we went to the Pizza and Wine festival in Stellenbosch. This too was equally amazing because we were able to eat pizza and taste wine on a vineyard. The common factor in all of these activities were the amazing people I went with. I have become closer with people on this trip then I originally thought I would. I think experiencing these moments with my new friends and talking through what we learn in class is making all the difference on this trip. I am glad I made the decision to return for a second time and making friends that I know I will continue to talk to in the upcoming school year.
