Welcome to Our Blog

WELCOME TO OUR BLOG

As anyone who has participated in UConn's Education Abroad in Cape Town will tell you, there are no words to adequately explain the depth of the experiences, no narratives to sufficiently describe the hospitality of the people, and no pictures to begin to capture the exquisite scenery. Therefore this blog is only intended to provide an unfolding story of the those co-educators who are traveling together as companions on this amazing journey.

As Resident Director of this program since 2008 it is once again my privilege and honor to accompany another group of remarkable students to this place I have come to know and love.

In peace, with hope,

Charity looking forward to finding her groove

Molo (Hello) Cape Town! You look even better than the photos. Above is the first picture I took of Cape Town after disembarking from the plane, en route to the house where I and a few others of my comrades are staying for the duration of the program. To be honest, once we first landed after all of that traveling the only thing that I was focused on was moving into my accommodations, unpacking and getting some serious rest! It wasn’t until the next day that I began to look around and realize just how incredible this country is. I was struck first by the awe inspiring Table Mountain (which I am equal parts nervous and excited to attempt to hike up at some point in the coming weeks) and secondly by the dry grass. Currently it is summer in Cape Town and according to Capetonians during their summer it is rare for them to get rain, which explains why the grass looks like it does. I’ve been fortunate enough to be staying in a single appropriately called the Mandela Suite which allows me the private time that I need to process the day’s events. Orientation is full of long and busy days so I have definitely been grateful for that space and time to myself. I’m excited to truly begin exploring the city and making it my own. There seems to be so much to do and get involved in and I look forward to finding my groove in this new adventure I’ve begun!
