Welcome to Our Blog

WELCOME TO OUR BLOG

As anyone who has participated in UConn's Education Abroad in Cape Town will tell you, there are no words to adequately explain the depth of the experiences, no narratives to sufficiently describe the hospitality of the people, and no pictures to begin to capture the exquisite scenery. Therefore this blog is only intended to provide an unfolding story of the those co-educators who are traveling together as companions on this amazing journey.

As Resident Director of this program since 2008 it is once again my privilege and honor to accompany another group of remarkable students to this place I have come to know and love.

In peace, with hope,

Paige already believes this is her best semester ever!

I can’t believe we are in Cape Town!! Everyone I’ve met so far has been super welcoming that it doesn’t even feel like we are all the way across the world. They have made it very comfortable for us here, especially Vernon. I think orientation has also been really helpful with our adjustment. Not to mention everything we have done this far has been amazing. I love how there’s a view of a mountain in any direction you look in and I especially like how Table Mountain can be used as a reference point to determine where you are in the city. It’s sort of comforting.

Now that I’m all moved in to the new house I realized I definitely over packed which I’m not happy about because I tried so hard not to over pack. I even had my friend come over and take out clothes from my suitcase. I have a feeling I’ll be buying more down here too, so I’ll probably have to check an extra bag or send some clothes home with my parents! The house is much bigger than I expected and everyone gets along really well which is nice. I think we are all really grateful to have a pool to use. The sun in Africa is hot!! There’s nothing better than taking a dip after a full day in the heat.

The wifi here at the house is not good but oddly enough I’m really glad about that. I like the feeling of being so disconnected from my phone and the internet. It’s given me the opportunity to truly enjoy my time in Cape Town and to fully take everything in without worrying about posting the perfect picture that will get the most likes. Cape Town is a beautiful place and I’m learning so much. This has already been the best semester ever!!
