Welcome to Our Blog

WELCOME TO OUR BLOG

As anyone who has participated in UConn's Education Abroad in Cape Town will tell you, there are no words to adequately explain the depth of the experiences, no narratives to sufficiently describe the hospitality of the people, and no pictures to begin to capture the exquisite scenery. Therefore this blog is only intended to provide an unfolding story of the those co-educators who are traveling together as companions on this amazing journey.

As Resident Director of this program since 2008 it is once again my privilege and honor to accompany another group of remarkable students to this place I have come to know and love.

In peace, with hope,
Marita McComiskey, PhD

Alex Z already making plans to return

I can't believe that this is really my last full week here. It's honestly breaking my heart to think that I'm going back so soon. I do miss my family and right now, my grandfather is very sick, so seeing him will be amazing, but I truly feel like this is where I belong as a person. I have accomplished so much with my character and have tested my limits.

I absolutely LOVED surfing last Friday, and hope to go again this weekend. It was surprising to me how much I enjoyed it and how quickly I got up on a board. The instructors were awesome and really put alot of enthusiasm into their work.Saturday, Abby and I went shopping and on a catamaran ride that took us along the waterfront coast, which was gorgeous. Watching Mean Girls was a fabulous way to wrap up the night. Sunday, I was supposed to finish my sea dives, but conditions moved them to Tuesday. I was able to hang out with Simon and drive around the coast, checking the surf for possible bodyboarding waves. Later in the evening, a bunch of the girls and I went to Shimmy's to see one of my absolute favorite artists, Jasmine Thompson, perform. She was fantastic and the atmosphere of the venue was great. Monday and Tuesday were wonderful days at work, as always..I got my coworkers to write in their handwriting the coordinates of Cape Town so that I can put them into my tattoo which I will be getting next Wednesday at Sins of Style. I'm looking forward to the weekend to spend time with my coworkers and enjoy my few free days that I have left. Already looking forward to January, when I plan on coming back for a couple weeks!
