WELCOME TO OUR BLOG

As anyone who has participated in UConn's Education Abroad in Cape Town will tell you, there are no words to adequately explain the depth of the experiences, no narratives to sufficiently describe the hospitality of the people, and no pictures to begin to capture the exquisite scenery. Therefore this blog is only intended to provide an unfolding story of the those co-educators who are traveling together as companions on this amazing journey.

As Resident Director of this program since 2008 it is once again my privilege and honor to accompany another group of remarkable students to this place I have come to know and love.

In peace, with hope,
Marita McComiskey, PhD

Libby excited to go home while making the most of her final weeks here

It’s so weird to think that there’s only two and a half weeks left here in Cape Town. It feels like forever since I have been home but I am excited to get back. As almost everyone on this trip already knows I am going to be in my cousins wedding 20 days after we land in America and I am counting down the days! It’s super exciting for my family because it is the first marriage out of all of us cousins. Also it’s very exciting for me because it is my first time being a bridesmaid. I am very sad I missed the bridal shower the other day and also lots of other fun wedding things that my family keeps telling me about. But of course I shouldn’t complain and I am happy I will at least be home with plenty of time before the wedding so I’m sure there will be plenty to do leading up to the day! Even though it feels like being home was forever ago, it also feels like the time here flew by. But I do feel like I have accomplished everything I have wanted and so so so much more, which makes me very happy. I am just going to spend these next two weeks enjoying every moment, and trying to fill up my last weekends as much as possible! I am also excited for the supervisors’ dinner; we invited the nurses and sisters from our hospital today and they were SO excited. They all were so surprised and grateful that we wanted them to come, and it was so sweet that it just made me that more excited for them to come! I think it will be a very nice ending meal to our trip, and it will be great to see so many people together celebrating our time here.
