WELCOME TO OUR BLOG

As anyone who has participated in UConn's Education Abroad in Cape Town will tell you, there are no words to adequately explain the depth of the experiences, no narratives to sufficiently describe the hospitality of the people, and no pictures to begin to capture the exquisite scenery. Therefore this blog is only intended to provide an unfolding story of the those co-educators who are traveling together as companions on this amazing journey.

As Resident Director of this program since 2008 it is once again my privilege and honor to accompany another group of remarkable students to this place I have come to know and love.

In peace, with hope,

Maria bidding goodbye to the best three months of her life

It's crazy how fast three and a half months flew by. It's even crazier that I doubted myself and almost didn't come. During my time in Cape Town, I've come to value myself so much more. When someone doubts me, I am confident enough to stick up for myself. I understand that while I appreciate being validated by others, I don't need it. I don't need anyone to tell me I'm smart and worthy because I am. I'm just as worthy as my tiny humans. Everyone matters. I've grown to appreciate life so much more. I've discovered my passion for tiny humans. I've fallen in love with the world a little more everyday. I'm coping with my intolerance to diary despite my plans tomorrow to eat mac and cheese balls at high velocities. The tiny humans have helped me realize it's okay to be laughed at, especially if you're crying through goodbyes. I've learned it's okay to be wrong.

It just won't sink in that I'll be traveling back to the states in twenty four hours. I always struggle with goodbyes because I never want the feeling to end. I suppose it's time to learn how to deal with goodbyes.

Goodbye to the best three months of my life. See you soon to twenty nine new friends. I'll love you later, Cape Town.
