Welcome to Our Blog

WELCOME TO OUR BLOG

As anyone who has participated in UConn's Education Abroad in Cape Town will tell you, there are no words to adequately explain the depth of the experiences, no narratives to sufficiently describe the hospitality of the people, and no pictures to begin to capture the exquisite scenery. Therefore this blog is only intended to provide an unfolding story of the those co-educators who are traveling together as companions on this amazing journey.

As Resident Director of this program since 2008 it is once again my privilege and honor to accompany another group of remarkable students to this place I have come to know and love.

In peace, with hope,
Marita McComiskey, PhD

Bryan has mixed feelings as he prepares for the unknown aspects of this trip

My name is Bryan Knighton I am a Senior Political Science major here at UCONN. I decided to participate in this program after one of my advisors told me of the opportunity and after attending an information session on what the program was about and what I would get the chance to do in South Africa. During this trip I hope to learn more about myself. I have studied abroad before and I was able to find out things about me as a person that I never really knew. I also want to perform really well in my internship, because it is closely related to my future career field and if I take advantage of this opportunity I will have gained experience that I otherwise would not have gotten if I didn’t go to South Africa.

At this very moment I have mixed feelings going through my head and a lot of them are dealing with the unknown aspects of the trip. I can say that I am not nervous about going to another country as I have done so before in the summer of 2015 with the London program, but I do think that the thought of spending a semester in an unfamiliar environment with a group of individuals who I have not yet made personal connections with is what makes me nervous. I also feel like I have a lot of pressure upon my shoulders, because I need to be a great example of what UCONN students are like, and what we have to contribute to the international community as students.
