Welcome to Our Blog

WELCOME TO OUR BLOG

As anyone who has participated in UConn's Education Abroad in Cape Town will tell you, there are no words to adequately explain the depth of the experiences, no narratives to sufficiently describe the hospitality of the people, and no pictures to begin to capture the exquisite scenery. Therefore this blog is only intended to provide an unfolding story of the those co-educators who are traveling together as companions on this amazing journey.

As Resident Director of this program since 2008 it is once again my privilege and honor to accompany another group of remarkable students to this place I have come to know and love.

In peace, with hope,
Marita McComiskey, PhD

Emily's feeling exceptionally excited

My name is Emily Steck and I am a Sophomore pursuing a double major in Political Science and Human Rights. I'm most interested in studying women's and reproductive rights as they relate to policy and social justice. I decided to participate in the Cape Town program because it provides students with an environment abroad that is unique and multifaceted. Cape Town is home to a culture that I am very excited to immerse myself in and the internship program paired with the classes offered interested me to no end. In going to Cape Town I hope to gain some hands-on experience in my areas of study and get a better understanding as to where my focus should lay when considering future career/life options.

Since committing to the program I have felt exceptionally excited to begin preparations to go abroad and to get to know everyone in the program better. Though I am a little sad to be leaving behind some amazing friends and a very nervous family, my excitement for beginning this journey far over-shadows any of that. I cannot wait to see all of the sights and enjoy the beautiful city that I have spent extensive amounts of time looking at in photographs and online.
