Welcome to Our Blog

WELCOME TO OUR BLOG

As anyone who has participated in UConn's Education Abroad in Cape Town will tell you, there are no words to adequately explain the depth of the experiences, no narratives to sufficiently describe the hospitality of the people, and no pictures to begin to capture the exquisite scenery. Therefore this blog is only intended to provide an unfolding story of the those co-educators who are traveling together as companions on this amazing journey.

As Resident Director of this program since 2008 it is once again my privilege and honor to accompany another group of remarkable students to this place I have come to know and love.

In peace, with hope,
Marita McComiskey, PhD

Sydney grateful for the chance to return to Cape Town

Hello my name is Sydney Jackson. I am a Junior Natural Resources major with a concentration in Wildlife Conservation and Fisheries. I enjoyed my previous study abroad program for four weeks in Cape Town this past summer that I knew I had to come back for a semester and experience even more. Those four weeks gave me a taste of what I would be doing in my future career that I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to go back. Through this opportunity I hope to gain research experience and have a great internship that will allow me to apply the skills I have learned in class, in a real life setting. Also I hope to get the chance to interact with the citizens of Cape Town on a more personal level and get a chance to see friends I have made.

Thinking about everything that is to come has me super excited. I’ve just been thinking about all the amazing things we will be doing, and getting the chance to bond with the people I go with. I wish the spring semester was already here and I was closer to leaving. Overall I’m very grateful for getting the chance to return to Cape Town, I never thought I would get this chance.
