Welcome to Our Blog

WELCOME TO OUR BLOG

As anyone who has participated in UConn's Education Abroad in Cape Town will tell you, there are no words to adequately explain the depth of the experiences, no narratives to sufficiently describe the hospitality of the people, and no pictures to begin to capture the exquisite scenery. Therefore this blog is only intended to provide an unfolding story of the those co-educators who are traveling together as companions on this amazing journey.

As Resident Director of this program since 2008 it is once again my privilege and honor to accompany another group of remarkable students to this place I have come to know and love.

In peace, with hope,
Marita McComiskey, PhD

Joshua has known for years he wanted to study abroad in South Africa

My name is Joshua Essick, and I am a junior economics and human rights double major.  Since coming to UConn I knew I wanted to study abroad in South Africa.  I went to South Africa when I was living in Germany in 8th grade with my family.  Was impacted seeing the income disparity and racial tension.  My passion is to one day run my own non-profit that impacts the life of youth who are born into extreme poverty.  I hope by going on this trip I can solidify my plan for after graduation and build valuable relationships.  Was very excited to find out I had been accepted in the program.  I play club soccer here and our season is most likely wrapping up in a couple weeks, it's going to take a lot to stay focused for the rest of the semester knowing what's coming in the spring!  I sent texts right away to a few former students who I knew that graduated last year and had gone on the trip.  Everyone is excited, looking forward to getting to know you all!
