Welcome to Our Blog

WELCOME TO OUR BLOG

As anyone who has participated in UConn's Education Abroad in Cape Town will tell you, there are no words to adequately explain the depth of the experiences, no narratives to sufficiently describe the hospitality of the people, and no pictures to begin to capture the exquisite scenery. Therefore this blog is only intended to provide an unfolding story of the those co-educators who are traveling together as companions on this amazing journey.

As Resident Director of this program since 2008 it is once again my privilege and honor to accompany another group of remarkable students to this place I have come to know and love.

In peace, with hope,

Meg's opportunity to live, intern and learn in Cape Town is a dream come true

Hi everyone! My name is Meghan O'Neil, you can call me Meg or Meghan I don't have a preference! I am a sophomore Sociology major with a double minor in Communications and Women's, Gender and Sexualities Studies. I have wanted to go to Africa for basically my entire life, so when I heard about this program I was interested immediately. Ultimately I chose this trip over others because of the internship aspect and because I feel like this trip really emerges you into the culture.

My dream career would be working to better women's education in third world countries, so I hope this trip and my internship gives me a better sense of what that is like. I also hope to form new and lasting relationships with the other students going because so far it seems like an awesome group! I can't wait to emerge myself into a new culture and go on tons of adventures to explore South Africa!

When I first got my acceptance email into the program I was ecstatic to say the least! I immediately called my family and texted basically everyone I am close to. The realization that one of my dreams was finally going to come true was overwhelming. I don't think I stopped smiling for the rest of the night.
