Welcome to Our Blog

WELCOME TO OUR BLOG

As anyone who has participated in UConn's Education Abroad in Cape Town will tell you, there are no words to adequately explain the depth of the experiences, no narratives to sufficiently describe the hospitality of the people, and no pictures to begin to capture the exquisite scenery. Therefore this blog is only intended to provide an unfolding story of the those co-educators who are traveling together as companions on this amazing journey.

As Resident Director of this program since 2008 it is once again my privilege and honor to accompany another group of remarkable students to this place I have come to know and love.

In peace, with hope,
Marita McComiskey, PhD

Caroline's looking forward to understanding ZA history from an economic perspective

Hey everyone! My name is Caroline Wildstein and I’m a junior marketing major in the School of Business. I’ve been dreaming about getting the chance to go to Cape Town since I found out about the program at the study abroad fair my freshman year. The program is such a great opportunity for me; not only do I get to spend four months of my life in one of the most beautiful places on earth, but I will get to experience a unique and diverse culture completely different than my own.

I am especially looking forward to the internship component of the trip - that aspect is initially what attracted me to the Cape Town program.  During my internship, I hope to gain a better understanding of the lasting political, economic, and social effects of South Africa’s history from an economic perspective. I look forward to experiencing firsthand the relationship between global economics and social change.

I have no idea what exactly to expect once we step off the flight, but I cannot wait to find out.  I know this program will change and mature me as a person and I think that is one of the most important things that travel can teach you.

I am beyond excited to get to know all of you and spend the next semester exploring South Africa together– especially the Kruger!
